York Facts

In 1644, during the Civil War, York was besieged by the Parliamentarians. Prince Rupert, and an army of 15,000 men lifted the siege. At at the Battle of Marston Moor of Rupert's 15,000 troops, 4,000 were killed and 1,500 captured. On July 15 the city surrendered to Sir Thomas Fairfax.

Directions:

From A1M A19 south and A1079 westbound join the A64. Follow signs to Leeds Racecourse and come off at the sign for York WEST the A1036. Follow this road to the end of the Racecourse and the Newington hotel stands immediately on your right. From the A59 North follow the signs for city centre.
